Atlanta,

As we close out another month of progress, I continue to be inspired by what we are building together. Every initiative, partnership, and community celebration reflects our shared commitment to creating a safer, stronger, and more connected Atlanta. From expanding affordable housing and revitalizing neighborhoods to supporting SNAP recipients through ATL CARES, we are demonstrating what it truly means to show up for our residents. And as we prepare for the world’s biggest stage in 2026, Atlanta is proving what happens when government and community move as one.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we are Moving Atlanta Forward.

— Mayor Andre Dickens

** What’s going on in Atlanta?
------------------------------------------------------------

City and Community Partners Distribute Thanksgiving Turkeys Across Atlanta

Atlanta families received holiday support through two separate turkey distribution events held on Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. On Monday, the City partnered with Da Brat, Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart, and local sponsors to host a Turkey Drive at Rosel Fann Recreation Center. Five hundred families from Southeast Atlanta received turkeys and groceries through support from Atlanta Life Insurance Company, Kaleidoscope Hair Care, Whiskey Mistress Restaurant, Celebs Give Back, and Bella Nissan.

On Tuesday, the 20th Annual Southwest Atlanta Turkey Distribution took place at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. Council member Andrea Boone, T. I., and the Harris family continued their long-standing tradition of providing Thanksgiving meals to local families. What began with 100 turkeys twenty years ago has grown into one of the city’s largest holiday support efforts. More than 1,500 families received turkeys, produce, and meal kits, with volunteers, community organizations, and City of Atlanta employees assisting throughout the day. Mayor Dickens joined partners to thank volunteers and emphasize the importance of showing up for neighbors during the holiday season.

Both events highlight Atlanta’s commitment to supporting residents, strengthening community partnerships, and helping families prepare for Thanksgiving with dignity and ease.

ATL CARES Supports Families During Temporary Pause in Federal SNAP Benefits

A temporary pause in federal SNAP benefits affected households across Atlanta, leading to sudden gaps in food access for many families. In response, the City activated ATL CARES, a rapid-response initiative that provides direct support during moments of disruption. Team members and community partners organized neighborhood events offering fresh groceries, pantry items, and information on available help.

This response helped ensure children, seniors, and adults had consistent access to meals during the benefit interruption. ATL CARES continues to serve as a critical safety net for residents experiencing unexpected challenges, and this month’s work demonstrated how the City, nonprofits, and volunteers can come together to support families during times of need.

City of Atlanta Begins Design Phase for the Chattahoochee Brick Site
and RiverLands Corridor

The City has begun the design phase for the Chattahoochee Brick Site, one of the most important historical properties in Atlanta. For decades, community members and descendants of people harmed by the former convict leasing system have advocated for an adequate future for this land. The new design phase will guide the transformation of the site into a memorial space that honors the individuals affected by the forced labor practices that once took place there.

This work is tied to the RiverLands Corridor, a major regional initiative that will increase public access to the Chattahoochee River through new trails, restored natural areas, and community gathering spaces. When complete, residents will have an accessible place to learn, reflect, walk, bike, and connect with nature along the river. This month’s progress represents a meaningful step toward turning years of advocacy and community input into a public space that tells the truth about our past while creating a healthier and more welcoming riverfront for future generations.

TechieHomes Moves Forward With New Micro-Home Community
on the Westside

Atlanta is preparing to welcome its first TechieHomes community, an innovative micro-home development designed to create new homeownership options for residents seeking affordability and stability. The project is located along Brawley Drive on the Westside, an area experiencing significant growth and rising housing costs.

TechieHomes will offer first-time homebuyers a more accessible path to owning property in the city. The homes are designed to reduce monthly expenses through energy-efficient features and lower long-term maintenance needs. Residents will also benefit from a close-knit community layout with outdoor spaces that encourage social connection. This month’s progress marks an important milestone in the City’s broader strategy to increase homeownership opportunities in neighborhoods where long-term residents face pressure from rising costs and limited options.

Skyline Apartments Opens 250 Affordable Homes in Peoplestown

The opening of Skyline Apartments brings 250 affordable homes to Peoplestown, supporting residents who are working to establish stable housing and build their futures. The new development includes on-site services, job support, community rooms, and outdoor spaces that help residents strengthen their quality of life. The location gives families and individuals access to nearby transit, healthcare, grocery stores, and other daily needs.

Skyline Apartments is part of the City’s broader effort to grow the supply of long-term affordable housing in neighborhoods that have seen rising rents and limited options. Many residents shared that they now feel a renewed sense of stability, with safe, modern homes and supportive services in place to help them move forward. This project delivers on the City’s commitment to keeping housing accessible, especially for residents who have faced housing insecurity.

New Senior Housing Breaks Ground at McAuley Park

Construction has begun on the second phase of McAuley Park, a project that will bring 97 affordable homes for adults aged 55 and older to the Old Fourth Ward. The development is located beside Mercy Care’s medical clinic, giving residents convenient access to healthcare, support programs, and transportation.

The new community is designed to help seniors live independently with access to the resources they need to age in place. It reflects the City’s goal of expanding housing that supports older adults, especially in neighborhoods where rising housing costs make it difficult for residents to remain close to essential services.
