Committee meeting video.
Rain fell. Umbrellas went up. And Atlanta showed up anyway.
I thought about that this Memorial Day weekend while walking through Piedmont Park during the Atlanta Jazz Festival. Thousands of people gathered despite the weather because that's who Atlanta is. We show up for one another. We celebrate together. And we keep moving forward.
That same spirit is guiding the work happening across our city right now.
In just a few short weeks, Atlanta will welcome the world for FIFA World Cup 2026. We are preparing to host one of the largest sporting events on the planet, showcasing our city on a global stage and demonstrating why Atlanta continues to be recognized as a place of innovation, opportunity, and growth.
But while we prepare for visitors, we are not forgetting the people who call Atlanta home.
That's why this month's proposed budget continues investments in affordable housing, youth opportunities, public safety, parks, infrastructure, and neighborhood services. It's why we are continuing conversations around the Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative. And it's why we're opening new grocery stores, improving parks, and expanding access to resources in communities that have waited far too long for their fair share of investment.
Atlanta's success means little if it doesn't reach every neighborhood.
Our goal remains simple: ensure that every resident can experience the benefits of Atlanta's growth, regardless of where they live. Whether that's access to fresh food, a quality park, safer streets, youth opportunities, affordable housing, or the tools and resources families need to thrive.
Because when we say Atlanta is winning, we mean all of Atlanta.
And we won't lose sight of that mission.

Making Growth Work for Everyone
Budget Investments and Neighborhood Reinvestment
Atlanta continues to receive national recognition for economic growth, business development, public safety improvements, and quality of life. But city leaders say the next challenge is ensuring more residents can experience that progress in their everyday lives.
This month, Mayor Dickens presented the proposed FY2027 budget, highlighting years of investment that have helped reduce crime, expand affordable housing, improve parks, create youth opportunities, and strengthen neighborhood infrastructure. City leaders pointed to more than 13,000 affordable housing units built or under construction, significant reductions in violent crime, expanded youth programming, and Atlanta's historic AAA bond rating as examples of progress already underway.
At the same time, the administration continued discussions with City Council on the proposed Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative (NRI), a comprehensive strategy designed to bring more investment, opportunity, and resources to historically underinvested communities. The proposal includes expanded anti-displacement protections, neighborhood investment tools, food access initiatives, and new accountability measures designed to ensure residents have a greater voice in shaping future investments.
As discussions continue, city leaders say the focus remains on one question: how to ensure Atlanta's growth reaches every neighborhood and every family.

Bringing Resources Closer to Home
A Grocery Store Is Coming Back to Campbellton Road
That's why community leaders gathered this month to preview Atlanta's second Azalea Fresh Market, a project designed to bring fresh produce, affordable groceries, and everyday essentials closer to residents in Southwest Atlanta.
The future market builds on the success of the city's first Azalea Fresh Market in Downtown Atlanta, which now serves more than 17,000 shoppers each month. Leaders hope the Campbellton Road location will help close long-standing food access gaps while supporting broader neighborhood revitalization efforts.
The project also reflects many of the priorities residents have consistently raised during conversations about the Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative: access to healthy food, economic opportunity, neighborhood amenities, and investments that improve everyday quality of life.
Sometimes neighborhood investment starts with major infrastructure projects. Sometimes it starts with making it easier for a family to buy groceries close to home.

Parks, Public Spaces and Community Pride
Building Places Where Atlanta Comes Together
Atlanta's continued investment in parks and public spaces is producing visible results across the city.
This month, Atlanta officially climbed into the Top 20 park systems in America, rising from 49th to 18th nationally in just four years. Today, nearly 85 percent of residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, reflecting years of investment in playgrounds, recreation centers, trails, greenspaces, and neighborhood amenities.
The momentum continues across the city.
In South Downtown, city leaders opened Founders Green, a new public gathering space designed for movie nights, fitness classes, celebrations, and community events. The new green space adds another destination for residents and visitors while helping bring new energy to one of Atlanta's oldest neighborhoods.
The city also launched new Throne smart restroom facilities in parks and public spaces, improving accessibility, cleanliness, and convenience for residents and visitors alike. The technology-driven facilities will help support Atlanta's growing park system while improving the experience in some of the city's busiest public spaces ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026.
Together, these investments are creating more places where Atlantans can gather, connect, and enjoy their neighborhoods.

The Road to FIFA
Preparing to Welcome the World
In less than a month, Atlanta will welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors as part of FIFA World Cup 2026.
Preparation efforts continue across city departments, from transportation and public safety planning to hospitality training, emergency preparedness, and neighborhood beautification projects.
This month, city leaders launched a new anti-human trafficking awareness campaign at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in partnership with survivor advocates, law enforcement agencies, and hospitality leaders. The campaign is designed to educate the public, train frontline workers, and strengthen prevention efforts ahead of the tournament.
The effort is part of a broader strategy to ensure Atlanta is prepared not only to host visitors, but to do so safely and responsibly.

Progress in Action: Moving Atlanta Forward Infrastructure Bond Update
In 2022, Atlanta voters approved the Moving Atlanta Forward infrastructure program, authorizing $750 million for improvements to roads, sidewalks, parks, recreation facilities, public safety buildings, trails, and other neighborhood infrastructure projects across the city.
This month, the Moving Atlanta Forward Steering Committee met to review the program's progress and discuss how projects are advancing across Atlanta. The committee helps monitor project delivery, review schedules and budgets, and ensure the voter-approved investments continue moving forward.
According to the latest update, over $131 million has already been spent and $248 million has been committed to active projects, with work underway in neighborhoods throughout the city.
Residents are already seeing results through projects such as:
* Improvements at Yonah Park and Alexander Park
* New sidewalks and transportation improvements across multiple corridors
* Continued construction of Fire Stations 25, 26, and 30
* Construction of the new Zone 4 Police Precinct
* The recently completed Atlanta Center for Diversion and Services facility
The committee also reviewed transportation projects funded through the program. Today,
51 transportation projects are already in construction or closeout phases, including street repairs, sidewalks, bridges, trails, and safety improvements across the city.
As more projects move from planning into construction, city leaders say the focus remains on delivering visible improvements that residents can see and use in their neighborhoods every day.
